Shihezi University

Shihezi University is located in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, PR China. It was designated as a key institution by the Central Government in August 2000 and was ranked among the key constructed university under the “211 project” in Dec 31, 2008. Shihezi University - School of Medicine is one of the institutes recognized by WHO (World Health Organization) and is listed by Ministry of Education of China to induct international students for medical studies in English.

Shihezi University offers 11 specialties, viz. Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, Economics and Trade, Management, Literature, Arts, Sciences, Education, Law and History. It has 23 colleges, offering 9 doctorate degrees, 61 master degrees, and 100 bachelor degrees programs. Currently, it has 2,721 full-time teachers, 407 professors, 765 associate professors. The total number of students is 32,262 including 23,770 undergraduates and 8,032 postgraduates and PhD.

The University is equipped with the most up-to-date teaching and scientific research facilities.It covers 1,870, 000 square meters. The library has a collection of 2,900,000 books and periodicals (both in Chinese and international languages) and is the only digital library in Xinjiang. Shihezi University has extensively established exchange programs with different universities and colleges of the United States, Russia, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Austria, Japan and South Korea.

School of Medicine

Shihezi University - School of Medicine is one of the 23 affiliated colleges Of the University and it is among the oldest ones. To meet the demands, about 20,000 graduates of medical specialties had walked out of this institution as medical elite of the society in the past 75 years since its foundation. These graduates have made great contributions to medical care and public health development not only in China but around the world. During these 75 years of development, the school has advanced into the high-quality teaching and degree system with multi-level students’ training bases. At present, School of Medicine has Clinical Medicine, Dentistry, and Medical Imaging, Medical laboratory, Preventive Medicine and Nursing for under-graduates. It offers 14 academic areas for master degree. It has a key laboratory constructed by the Ministry of Education on its premises. In 2023, there are a total of 3,373 undergraduates and 1,020 graduates. They all came from 29 different provinces and autonomous regions of China. Currently School of Medicine has 2,722 full time teachers and researchers. It has 8 affiliated hospitals and 14 clinical practice hospitals, with 13 of them bearing the Honorary Title of “3-A Class Hospitals". The first affiliated hospital is ranked as one of the 100 best hospitals of PR China.

Most of the international students are from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh but a few are also from USA, UK,KSA, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan. Considering their different life style, cultures and linguistic variety, they are all enjoying a better life and living in a separate building of their own, known commonly here as International Students' Dormitory.
